Can Bedrock Join a Java Server? Clear Guide for Players

Bedrock and Java players joining the same Minecraft server through crossplay

Minecraft Bedrock cannot join a Java server natively. The two editions use different protocols, so the practical answer is: yes, Bedrock can join when the Java server runs a crossplay layer such as GeyserMC.

This guide is written for players. If you only need to know what server details to ask for and why the server sometimes does not appear, start here.

The short answer

A Bedrock player connects to the Bedrock entry point for the server. That usually means a Bedrock address and a Bedrock port, not only the address Java players use. GeyserMC receives the Bedrock connection and translates it toward the Java server.

Java players use the normal Java address. Bedrock players use the Bedrock details provided by the server owner. If the server does not have GeyserMC or an equivalent setup, Bedrock will not be able to join.

What a Bedrock player should ask for

Before opening Minecraft, ask for three things: the server address, the Bedrock port, and whether any account linking or special login step is required. The Bedrock port is often different from the Java port, and it uses UDP, so a port that works for Java does not automatically work for Bedrock.

It is also worth asking whether the server uses Floodgate. With Floodgate, Bedrock players can join more smoothly without treating every Bedrock account like a normal Java account. For the difference, read our guide to GeyserMC and Floodgate.

Common mistakes

The most common mistake is entering the exact same address and port that a Java friend uses. Sometimes that works if the owner configured it that way, but it is not the safe assumption. Another common issue is that the server is online, but the Bedrock UDP port is blocked by a firewall or hosting panel.

Console players may also have extra steps because not every platform exposes custom servers in the same way as PC or mobile. In that case, the server may be fine even if the join flow is awkward.

What the server needs

The server should be a Java server, often Paper if you want plugins, with GeyserMC configured to listen for Bedrock connections. For mixed groups, start with the full Java and Bedrock crossplay guide, then test with one Bedrock player before inviting everyone.

On Mineando

On Mineando, the easiest flow is to create the Java server, enable the crossplay stack that fits your group, and share two sets of instructions: one for Java and one for Bedrock. That keeps friends from copying the wrong port and turns launch day into a game session, not a support queue.
