Plan Guide: What Can You Actually Do with 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 12GB?

Minecraft server RAM guide: how many GBs you need to play Vanilla, with friends, or heavy Modpacks

Tell me what you play, and I'll tell you what plan you need

At Mineando, we’ve simplified our offering into 4 power levels: 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, and 12GB. Sometimes it’s hard to know which one to pick, and choosing wrong can mean either wasting money (if you overbuy) or suffering through lag (if you underbuy).

Here is the ultimate and honest guide on exactly what each of our plans is for in 2026.

1. The 2GB Plan: "The Technician" or "The Retro"

Let’s be clear: Modern versions of Minecraft (1.18 and up) are memory hogs. The 2GB plan is NOT recommended for a modern Survival session with friends.

What is this plan perfect for?

  • Classic Versions: For PVP servers running on version 1.8 or 1.12.
  • Testing: For logging in solo to configure plugins before opening the real server.

2. The 4GB Plan: "The Vanilla Standard"

This is our Best Seller for friend groups. It’s the perfect balance between cost and performance for playing the base game.

Ideal for:

  • Vanilla Survival (1.20+): Works perfectly for groups of 3 to 6 friends.
  • PaperMC / Purpur: With good optimization, you can fit up to 10 players.
  • Basic Plugins: Protections, skins, proximity voice chat.

3. The 8GB Plan: "The Modder"

This is where raw power starts. If you're bored of regular Minecraft and want to add some "spice," this is your starting point.

Ideal for:

  • Medium Modpacks: CurseForge packs with between 50 and 150 mods.
  • Medium Communities: Public servers with 15–20 simultaneous players.
  • Large Worlds: If you love heavy exploration and generating terrain fast with Elytras.

4. The 12GB Plan: "The Beast"

Our top-of-the-line plan. Designed for those who don't want to worry about closing browser tabs or limiting render distance.

Ideal for:

  • Heavy Modpacks: Monsters like All The Mods 9, RLCraft, or DawnCraft. These packs need plenty of RAM to load hundreds of textures and scripts.
  • Massive Events: If you’re organizing a tournament with 30+ people.
  • Technical Servers: Massive redstone farms and hundreds of active entities.

Remember: Flexibility is your friend

The best part about Mineando's hourly model is that you aren't married to a plan. Did you start with 4GB and your friends want to add mods now? Just turn it off, switch to the 8GB plan, and keep playing in seconds. You only pay the difference for the time you actually use it.
