1.8, 1.12, or 1.21? A Guide to Choosing the Perfect Version for Your Server

Not All Versions Are Created Equal (And Your RAM Knows It)
When you go to create your server at Mineando, you're faced with a dropdown list full of numbers—from the classic 1.7.10 to the very latest update. Which one should you choose?
The answer depends on what you want to play. Each version has its own community, RAM requirements, and purpose. Here, we break down the 4 "Golden Ages" of Minecraft so you can get it right the first time.
1. Version 1.8.8: The PVP Kingdom
If your goal is to set up a server for BedWars, SkyWars, or Practice PVP, this is your mandatory version.
- Why? It's the version before the combat system overhaul (the axe and sword "cooldown"). Competitive players hate the new combat and love the "spam-clicking" of 1.8.
- Performance: It's a very lightweight version and consumes very little memory.
- Ideal Plan: Our 2 GB plan is perfect here! For very little money, you can host a super-smooth combat server.
2. Version 1.12.2: The Golden Age of Mods
For a long time, Minecraft updates slowed down, and mod creators took advantage of this to build the most legendary modpacks in history.
- Why? If you want to play classic industrial, magic, or tech mods that don't exist in newer versions, this is the most stable version.
- Performance: Stable, but mods consume memory.
- Ideal Plan: We recommend the 4 GB plan for light packs or 8 GB if you're going to load many industrial mods.
3. Version 1.16.5: The Modern Standard
The "Nether Update" changed the game. Many consider this version the perfect balance between new content and mod stability.
- Why? It's the base for most modern CurseForge modpacks. It has the new Nether, Elytras work well, and there are tons of updated plugins.
- Performance: It starts to demand more resources than the older ones.
- Ideal Plan: At least 4 GB to stay safe.
4. Version 1.20 / 1.21+: The Cutting Edge
If you want to see the new biomes, Armadillos, Trial Chambers, and all the content you see in Mojang's trailers, you need to stay up to date.
- Why? To play Vanilla Survival with friends and discover what's new. You don't want to be left behind.
- Performance: Minecraft has become quite heavy in these versions. The world height increased (deeper caves and taller mountains), which puts more strain on the CPU and RAM.
- Ideal Plan: Forget the 2 GB plan. Here you need the 4 GB plan (using Paper) for smooth gameplay, or 8 GB if you're adding mods.
